Not to be missed. One thing that brings down the film's overall quality, however, is the long and useless musical numbers performed about 3/4 of the way through the film. Also, the film slows down a bit in the middle with long, sustained sequences which really do not benefit the movie. The Marx Brothers, Margaret Dumont & Irving Thalberg are together here.

Comedy

Well, here's one more zany uniquely-Marx Brothers film, one noted for being the longest feature movie they made at 111 minutes.

The threesome pulls off a number of scams and tricks, but in the interest of helping a virtuous pretty girl keep her clinic open. The Marx Brothers are employed at a hotel in postwar Casablanca, where a ring of Nazis is trying to recover a cache of stolen treasure. Certificate: Passed

When MGM had such a great success with A Night at the Opera, their first film with the Marx Brothers it was only natural that they reunite them with Allan Jones again. Starring those three Marx Brothers, in their second collaboration for MGM, following the enormous success of A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (1935), this horse opera, being the longest running feature film of their screen career, stop-watched at 111 minutes, did prove quite successful then, and because of its good track record, still remains a sure bet comedy today.

Overall, this is a good Marx Brothers feature that is sometimes a little uneven, but that looks pretty good as long as you don't compare it with their very best pictures. Was this review helpful? He and Chico share a wonderful sequence at the racetrack with Chico, in need of quick cash, looking for a sucker to con...Groucho just happened to walk by. The actual films follow this pattern, too, with Races, coming two years later, being held to be good but lacking in comparison. What keeps this one together mostly is Groucho who manages to make you laugh in nearly all the scenes he is in.

A veterinarian posing as a doctor and a race-horse owner and his friends struggle to help keep a sanitarium open with the help of a misfit race-horse. Quincy Adams Wagstaff, the new president of Huxley University, accidentally hires bumblers Baravelli and Pinky to help his school win the big football game against the rival Darwin University.

One musical number includes many African-American performers, but also includes some negative racial … This one follows the same plot line as most of the other ones with Groucho fooling Margaret Doumant into doing anything for him and Harpo and Chico working together to keep something afloat or in business, in this case a sanitarium.

The Marx Brothers help young Broadway hopefuls while thwarting diamond thieves. Maureen O'Sullivan is perfection in everything and here she brings out a kinder, gentler side of the Marx Bros. Leonard Ceeley is great as Dumbrille's co-conspirator who runs afoul of the Marxes and lives to regret it.

He seats her and pushes in her chair at the table I have seen Duck Soup, which I would say has to be at least one of their best, seeing that I believe it to be one of the funniest comedies ever.

Forty years after the release of A Night At The Opera the rock group Queen released an album with the same title. There is a romantic subplot with the beautiful Maureen O'Sullivan but the male lead is very stiff and not so likable. Certificate: Passed See the film, and you'll find out what that means.

'A Day At The Races' is another laugh riot from the Marx Brothers. Here, though, there is a great number called "All God's Chillun Got Rhythm." The inclusion of music, such as the song and dance sequences were also a delight to watch. 10 of 12 people found this review helpful.
