Eagle trailhead is a short hike but has stunning views.Great hike up. Nestled in a forest of Jeffrey pines and aspens, Kit Carson campground is perfect for tent camping and smaller RVs. We couldn't! Fairly easy and super rewarding for a secluded spot mid week. If you are a lover of nature and backpacking, then Desolation Wilderness in California is a destination worth looking at. The remaining 30% of permits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis on the day of entry. I visited this one last week amid pretty toasty temperatures (I suppose normal for California though I seem to have brought them back to Seattle - it was a record setting 105 here today). There is a roughly 15 foot sloping wall with black granitic extrusions that provide a natural ladder to get to the bench where the pool is located.If you want to take sunset pictures, you will want to arrive much earlier than sundown because the crystal range will start casting shade relatively early.
