My hubby, who has cleaned up mouse droppings with out a mask or gloves many, many times in his life thought nothing of it so neither did I. I contacted hanta virus which is an extremely rare virus that comes from breathing in the particles of infected deer mice droppings. They say not to vacuum droppings but what if you don't realize the general household dust and crumbs that you are vacuuming have droppings mixed in? I've read you're not supposed to vacuum mouse dropping, but they're waaaaay back in the lower corner cupboards where I need to put dishes. Without thinking, I vacuumed them up and sanitized some of the stuff. I closed the vent and it kept clawing at it trying to get out. You are lucky to be alive! It was also pretty dusty inside & my husband grabbed the vacuum to get rid of the dust balls and mice poop, so he could set traps. We have a central vac so the air goes out to the garage.
